An exciting modern garden design in Bradford-on- Avon, BathI met this couple at Hampton Court Palace in 2014 where they fell in love with the ‘Garden of Solitude’ garden I created there. Their garden is a small patch attached to a new build stone property in picturesque Bradford- on -Avon near Bath and they wanted something contemporary, compact and that was inspired by my show garden.
The design focuses around a few key angled lines that help to create the illusion of greater space within this tiny 5 x 8m plot. A contemporary Aluminum pergola with angled beams and cantilevered sections with a limestone paved seating area with built in cantilevered wooden bench are the main features in the space. There is also a waterfall feature built into the back wall that cascades down a sheet of clear perspex. Walling was built around part of the garden in both painted render and wooden cladding to add interest and draw the eye. There will be soft up lighting around the garden and LED lighting in the water feature. Planting incorporates herbs, wildflowers, grasses and fruit trees- all to suit the local heavy clay soil. A multistem Amelanchier lamarckii takes pride of place in a raised stone bed and it’s stems stand out against the rendered backdrop. Quirky, modern furniture from EMU and Foscarini add additional, almost sculptural interest.
I used a fantastic local landscaping company, Outback Gardens for the build and would highly recommend them for any projects in the Bath and Bristol areas.
